Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Spoon or piping bag

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • a few drops green food coloring for the filling
  • purple or red food coloring for cracked egg effect
  • black sesame seeds or black olives for garnish

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • Place the eggs in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • After boiling, gently crack the shells of the eggs by rolling them on the counter. Don’t peel yet. Place the cracked eggs in a bowl of water mixed with purple or red food coloring. Let them sit for 30 minutes to absorb the spooky cracked effect.
  • Peel the shells to reveal the cracked designs. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise and scoop out the yolks into a mixing bowl.
  • Mash the yolks with mayonnaise, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add a few drops of green food coloring until you get a bright, creepy green shade.
  • Spoon or pipe the green yolk mixture back into the egg whites. Garnish with black sesame seeds or tiny pieces of black olives to resemble creepy eyes.

Notes

Always let the eggs cool completely before peeling to avoid tearing. For a deeper crack effect, let the eggs soak in food coloring overnight. Piping the filling with a star tip makes the design look more polished.
