Ingredients
  

Sauce

  • 420 g brown sugar
  • 250 ml water
  • 15 ml butter
  • 10 ml cornstarch

Pâte

  • 3 Cortland apples, peeled, cored and cubed
  • 150 g all-purpose flour unbleached
  • 15 ml baking powder
  • 105 g sugar
  • 15 ml butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 125 ml milk

Instructions
 

Sauce

  • In a small saucepan, bring all ingredients to a boil while whisking. Simmer on medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Pâte

  • Place the apples in a 20 cm (8 in) square glass baking dish. Set aside.
  • In a bowl, mix the flour and baking powder.
  • In another bowl, beat the sugar, butter, and egg with an electric mixer for 3 minutes. At low speed, incorporate the dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Pour the batter over the apples, then gently spread the sauce over the batter.
  • Bake in the oven for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool on a rack.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
